Chile & Argentina expeditions

Chile and Argentina combine puma-focused Patagonia, Torres del Paine, glaciers, condor cliffs, Atacama desert landscapes, Easter Island archaeology, and Peninsula Valdes wildlife.

Overview

SouthWild Chile & Argentina

Everyone knows that Chile is long and narrow, but few realize that this remarkable country stretches farther from north to south than the distance between Washington, D.C. and San Francisco. Slightly larger than Texas, Chile encompasses an astonishing range of landscapes, from the driest desert on Earth to the glaciers, fjords, and wild mountain ranges of Patagonia.

Chile is home to some of South America’s most extraordinary natural and cultural destinations: the surreal Atacama Desert in the far north, the spectacular peaks and wildlife of Torres del Paine in the far south, world-class vineyards near Santiago, and the mysterious archaeological legacy of Easter Island, a remote Pacific outpost located more than five hours west of the Chilean mainland.

SouthWild has carefully selected just a handful of destinations in this immensely diverse country, each chosen for a truly exceptional reason.

In northern Chile, San Pedro de Atacama offers dramatic desert landscapes, salt flats, flamingos, geysers, high-altitude lagoons, and some of the clearest night skies on Earth. Far to the south, Torres del Paine National Park stands among the world’s most beautiful protected areas, where granite towers rise above pristine lakes, Guanacos roam the plains, and elusive Pumas patrol the Patagonian steppe.

Near Santiago, travelers can enjoy elegant wine regions that combine exceptional gastronomy, beautiful landscapes, and some of South America’s finest vineyards. And far out in the Pacific Ocean, Easter Island remains one of the most isolated and fascinating destinations on Earth, a place where monumental stone statues and the remains of a once-thriving civilization continue to inspire wonder and reflection.

Because Patagonia naturally connects Chile and Argentina, SouthWild strongly recommends experiencing the finest destinations of both countries together. Given the close proximity between Torres del Paine and Argentina’s Los Glaciares National Park, it is possible to create seamless itineraries that combine dramatic mountain scenery, glaciers, wildlife, and sophisticated urban experiences without unnecessary backtracking.

Crossing the border through southern Patagonia allows travelers to connect iconic destinations such as Perito Moreno Glacier, Torres del Paine, Santiago, and Buenos Aires within one elegant “open-jaw” journey through the southern cone of South America.

In Argentina, SouthWild’s recommended highlights include three extraordinary regions. Los Glaciares National Park showcases the immense Perito Moreno Glacier and some of Patagonia’s most breathtaking mountain scenery. Península Valdés on the Atlantic coast offers one of the richest marine wildlife spectacles in South America, with Southern Right Whales, Orcas, elephant seals, sea lions, and abundant birdlife. In the far north, Iguassu Falls reveals one of the world’s greatest waterfall systems, surrounded by lush subtropical rainforest shared between Argentina and Brazil.

Whether combined with Brazil, Chile, or explored independently, SouthWild’s Argentina and Chile journeys are designed to balance spectacular wildlife, dramatic landscapes, refined accommodations, and seamless logistics.

Our specialists work closely with each traveler to design customized, comfortable, conservation-minded journeys that create unforgettable experiences for couples, photographers, naturalists, and families exploring the finest landscapes of South America.
