American Black Bear

The fourth and final bear of the Western Hemisphere is the American Black Bear, which we will call simply “Black Bear”. Since 2018, the SouthWild/NorthWild family of companies has researched the best locations in the world to see this species particularly well.

There are 900,000 Black Bears in the wild, with 96% split about evenly between the 11 provinces and territories of Canada and the 41 U.S. states, but with 40,000 (3.9% of the total) found in 6 Mexican states.

As improbable as it might sound, after scouring the states and provinces, our teams have located the three very best locations in the world to observe Black Bears. All three are located within a 2.5-4 h drive of very large airports, two of which offer many international flights.

Our locations offer the chance to enjoy totally private viewing of mother bears with small spring cubs. The observation is from as close as 5-20 meters, and we require no blinds or barriers.
