A Guaranteed Encounter with the Majestic Jaguar of the Pantanal

Deep within the heart of the Brazilian Pantanal, the Jaguar reigns as the ultimate symbol of wilderness and power. To meet one in its natural habitat is more than a wildlife sighting, it is an unforgettable emotional encounter. In that silent exchange of glances, you feel the pulse of nature itself: raw, ancient, and profoundly moving.

The Pantanal is a world of endless waterways, golden sunsets, and astonishing biodiversity. Every dawn reveals new wonders, rare birds crossing the skies, Giant Otters gliding through tranquil rivers, and Jaguars moving gracefully along the riverbanks.

With SouthWild, this is far more than a safari. It is an immersive journey into one of the last truly wild places on the planet, guided by pioneers in conservation and wildlife observation. Every moment is designed to awaken a deeper connection with nature and leave a lasting imprint on the soul.

Day by day

How the 7-day expedition unfolds

From the gateway at SouthWild Pantanal Lodge, through the heart of Jaguarland, and back. Seven days of immersive Pantanal wildlife, anchored by twice-daily River Safaris through the most jaguar-rich waterways in the Americas.

Day 1

Arrival to SouthWild Pantanal (SWP)

Meet your English-speaking SouthWild naturalist guide in Cuiabá and begin your journey into the heart of the Pantanal.

Depart on a scenic 3.5-hour drive to SouthWild Pantanal Lodge ("SWP"), the gateway between civilization and the legendary Jaguarland. Along the Transpantaneira, the iconic raised dirt road crossing one of the world's greatest wetlands, you will enjoy exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities, with frequent stops to observe the abundant birdlife, caimans, capybaras, and other species visible from bridges and roadside wetlands.

Your first stop will be at the flooded plains near the entrance to the Pantanal, a rich habitat for waterbirds, storks, and other remarkable wildlife. Arriving at SouthWild Pantanal Lodge in the late afternoon, you will have the opportunity to join our exclusive Ocelot Experience, located just 400 meters from the lodge, one of the best opportunities in the world to observe this elusive wild cat.

Afterwards, enjoy dinner in our screened, bird-friendly open-air dining room while immersed in the unforgettable night sounds of the Pantanal.

Day 2

Land and River Safari to Jaguarland

Wake to the sounds of the Pantanal and enjoy breakfast at SouthWild Pantanal Lodge while colorful birds gather around the lodge grounds, a perfect beginning for another day of wildlife exploration.

This morning, you may choose to take a gentle 1-kilometer walk to our exclusive Howler Monkey Experience, offering exceptional close-range viewing of wild Black-and-Gold Howler Monkeys from an elevated observation platform. With the monkeys often only a few meters away, this experience provides one of the finest opportunities anywhere in the world to observe and photograph these remarkable primates in their natural habitat.

After breakfast, continue your overland safari south along the Transpantaneira toward Porto Jofre, the gateway to Jaguarland. Along the way, your guide will stop frequently for wildlife sightings and photography opportunities, including Hyacinth Macaws, capybaras, caimans, giant storks, and an extraordinary diversity of wetland birds.

Upon arrival in Porto Jofre, board your private boat and venture deep into the winding waterways of Jaguarland for your first River Safari. Explore the riverbanks in search of the Pantanal's most iconic predator, the elusive Jaguar, while experiencing one of the greatest wildlife spectacles in the Americas.

Days 3, 4 & 5

Full Days of Jaguar Expeditions

Wake before sunrise to fresh coffee and breakfast as the Pantanal slowly comes alive around you. Each morning, set out on an immersive four-hour River Safari through the winding waterways of Jaguarland in search of Jaguars, Giant Otters, and the extraordinary wildlife that thrives along the riverbanks.

With expert SouthWild guides navigating one of the world's greatest wildlife regions, every outing offers exceptional opportunities for photography and close observation of the Pantanal's rich biodiversity, from Jaguars resting on the shore to flocks of vibrant birds, caimans, capybaras, and giant river otters moving through the water.

Return to the lodge before the midday heat to relax, review photographs, and enjoy a freshly prepared lunch surrounded by the sounds of the wilderness.

In the afternoon, venture out once again for a second four-hour safari as the golden light of late day transforms the landscape. As sunset approaches, the Pantanal reveals another side of its beauty, offering unforgettable moments in one of the wildest and most remarkable ecosystems on Earth.

Day 6

River & Land Safari out of Jaguarland

After a final breakfast in Jaguarland, begin your journey back north through the Pantanal aboard either an open-air Safari Truck or a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, continuing to enjoy wildlife sightings along the Transpantaneira.

Arrive at SouthWild Pantanal Lodge in time for lunch in our uniquely designed screened open-air restaurant. Surrounded by nature and carefully created to be bird-friendly, the dining space offers panoramic views while allowing guests to remain immersed in the sounds and atmosphere of the Pantanal. On warmer days, the wrap-around glass doors can be closed to provide full air-conditioned comfort without losing the connection to the surrounding wilderness.

The afternoon is yours to relax and enjoy the lodge grounds. Explore the rich wildlife around the property, cool off in the riverside pool, or unwind in one of the hammocks along the expansive veranda while taking in the tranquil rhythm of the Pantanal.

As evening falls, enjoy another opportunity to experience our exclusive Ocelot Experience, or venture out on a Night Safari in search of the elusive Tapir and other nocturnal wildlife that emerge after dark.

Day 7

Departure

Wake to the peaceful sounds of the Pantanal for your final morning at SouthWild Pantanal Lodge.

Before breakfast, make the most of sunrise with a visit to our 12-meter Jabiru Nest Tower, located just a short walk from the lodge. From this elevated platform, enjoy sweeping views across the wetlands as the Pantanal awakens in the early morning light, a final opportunity for photography and reflection in one of the world's great wildlife sanctuaries.

After breakfast, depart the lodge between 6:15 and 7:00 a.m. in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle for the return journey to Cuiabá Airport (CGB), arriving around 10:00 a.m.

The promise

Our Jaguar Guarantee

Many travelers ask: "What happens if I do not see a Jaguar?" Our answer reflects the confidence built over decades of experience.

The last time a guest on a three-day expedition failed to observe a Jaguar was in September 2010. In most cases, guests enjoy multiple sightings and extended viewing opportunities during both daily excursions. However, should the extraordinary occur and no Jaguar be seen during your stay, SouthWild offers two exclusive options.

Complete Refund

We will refund the full cost of your Jaguar Extreme tour experience with us. While external expenses such as flights are excluded, every amount paid directly to SouthWild for the tour will be returned.

Complimentary Return Expedition

Instead of a refund, guests may choose to repeat the Jaguar Extreme experience within two years, entirely complimentary.
