The expedition
Porto Jofre marks the southern end of the Transpantaneira road, where the land gives way to the river network that holds the densest documented population of wild jaguars on the planet. From our riverside base, you head out twice a day by silent safari boat along the Cuiabá, Três Irmãos and Piquiri rivers, with a senior naturalist guide and a small group.

Wildlife you may see
Beyond jaguars, the rivers around Porto Jofre are home to giant otters, caimans, hyacinth macaws, capybaras, anacondas and over 600 species of birds. Night drives along the Transpantaneira often turn up tapir, crab-eating fox and ocelot.
Best season
Between June and October, during the dry season, when jaguars concentrate along the riverbanks for water and prey.
